Aasana is a word used for the postures which are intrinsic to the practice of yoga. Aasans are one of the major tools of yoga. Their benefit ranges from the physical level to the spiritual level & that is why yoga is called sarvaanga sadhana. Yogic philosophy tells body is made up of 3 layers and 5 sheaths. Yoga integrates these 3 layers of the body with the 5 sheaths enabling the individual to develop as a total being. All the separation vanishes fusion occurs of mind, body and soul. Aasan helps to transform an individual to identify one’s being creating awareness within.
The person who practices yoga regularly will not ever become a slave of desire and can enjoy the mastery over the senses. In the third chapter of yog sutras, vibhuti pada, Patanjali speaks of the effects of the yoga. Patanjali tells once you start practicing yoga, follow it till you are transformed.
